YOUR

SHAGANAPPI COMMUNITY ASSOCIATION

IN ACTION

THE NEIGHBOURWOODS PROGRAM

and

THE SHAGANAPPI COMMUNITY CLEAN-UP DAY

Your Shaganappi Community Association board members have been working hard behind the scenes on many issues including the West LRT project impacting our neighbourhood, Parks and Recreation improvements in our community, Fundraising, and Block Watch, to name only a few.

Two City of Calgary and Shaganappi Community partnerships are happening soon, and we would like YOU to be part of them:

The NeighbourWoods Program.

The NeighbourWoods Program is a residential street tree planting initiative developed by City of Calgary Parks to encourage citizens and communities to grow and preserve Calgary's urban forest.

The City will:

  • Provide a tree to be planted.

  • Dig the hole for the tree.

  • Provide tree care information and free training for the registered resident.

  • Help with the planting process.

  • Provide extended maintenance to the tree.

You, the registered residents are responsible for:

  • Planting the tree(s).

  • Tending the tree(s), including watering and watching for pests and diseases.

  • Contributing $30 per tree for an efficient watering bag”

In the event that you wish to plant a tree where a shrub already exists, the City will remove the shrub for you to make way for the tree, provided it is on City property.

Deadline for registration is March 31, 2010 – simply call the 24-hour 311 line and tell the Operator that you live in the Shaganappi Community and want to register for the program.

Shaganappi Community Clean-up Day coming soon

Once a year, in cooperation with the City of Calgary Bylaw Enforcement and Waste Management departments, residents have the opportunity to clean out their basements, garages, back alleys and sheds of “junk” that is not usually taken by the garbage disposal trucks. So if you have old mattresses, dead lawn mower, tree branches, construction materials in your alley, this Spring is the time to come clean! More details of this event will be clearly posted on your Community Website soon: www.shaganappicommunity.ca

If you have any questions about either upcoming event, please call Jane Beddoe at 403.240.1111.
